The late former coach Baek In-cheon, who died at the age of 83 on the 15th, was put to sleep.
According to the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO), the funeral ceremony for the deceased was held at the funeral hall of Dankook University Hospital in Cheonan, Chungcheongnam-do, on the morning of the 17th. The deceased was later buried at Rodem Park Arboretum in Gyeonggi Province, where he was buried after passing through Cheonan Memorial Park, amid the seeing-off of baseball players and officials, including the bereaved family and KBO President Koo Hu-yeon.
Former coach Baek In-cheon is a man who made a big difference in Korean and Japanese baseball. From 1962 to 1981, he played in the Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB). In 1975, he hit .319 in batting average and became the Pacific League’s batting king.

He also had a great presence in the KBO League. He returned to Korea in 1982, the first year of professional baseball, and served as a player and manager of MBC’s Cheongryong. That year, the batting average was 0.412, remaining as an “immortal .400 hitter.”
Former coach Baek, who moved to the Sammi Super Stars in 1983, retired after playing until 1984. In 1990, he served as the first head coach of the LG Twins and led them to the unified championship, and also served as a manager for the Samsung Lions and Lotte Giants. He then coached players as batting instructors for Hanwha Eagles and SK Wyverns (currently SSG Landers).
Since then, the deceased has continued to fight against the disease even though he collapsed four times due to cerebral infarction. On the 14th, he was taken to the hospital in cardiac arrest and found blood pressure and pulse, but he died on the 15th. Former coach Baek In-cheon’s funeral was held in September last year for the second time after Lee Yong-il, former acting KBO president.
The baseball players’ condolences continued. Numerous baseball players, including former Doosan Bears coach Lee Seung-yeop (current hitting coach for the Yomiuri Giants), who had been with him for a long time during the Samsung period, honored the deceased. NPB Nippon-Ham Fighters sent a condolence message.
