The Cardinals are coming off an electric series win over their biggest rivals over the weekend. St. Louis lost its first game of the series against the Chicago Cubs, but they came back in Game 2 with one of the best big-league debuts in the history of the sport. The Cardinals won 8-4 to tie the series on Saturday, with Joshua Baez becoming the first player ever to hit three home runs in his first three at-bats in the majors. St. Louis kept that momentum rolling with an 11-4 victory in the rubber match on Sunday. Alec Burleson and Jordan Walker both hit homers, and they finished the game with three hits and four RBIs apiece. Baez went 0-for-5 in his second big-league debut, but watching this rookie is going to be fun for some time to come.

The Reds kind of had the opposite weekend of the Cardinals. Cincinnati won its opener against the Miami Marlins, but lost its last two to drop the series. The rubber match on Sunday was not close in the end for the Reds, losing 7-1. The game was actually close most of the way despite the final score, with neither team scoring until the eighth inning. Heriberto Hernandez ended the scoreless game with a homer in the top of the inning, and Miami tacked on another one. Cincy came back with its own homer from Tyler Stephenson in the bottom of the eighth. But Miami broke the game open with five runs in the ninth, highlighted by a three-run homer from Javier Sanoja that the Reds had no response to.
