It was a busy weekend of town ball action as the Waterville Indians, Faribault Lakers and Wanamingo Jacks all wrote the latest chapter. For the Lakers and Jacks it was the final chapter, but for the Indians a ninth inning comeback was just enough to extend the season as Waterville is set to once again make an appearance in the Class C Playoffs. Here’s a look at the action.

Wanamingo drops to Morristown 6-2
It would have been a long weekend for the Jacks to climb their way back into the state tournament picture but that weekend was cut short with a consolation bracket loss to Morristown, 6-2 on Saturday. The Jacks lost 12-2 to Waseca in the opening round before beating Blue Earth 7-3 to keep their season alive. That run came to a close as the Jacks struggled to find enough offense to keep up with Morristown.
Waterville sneaks past Cannon Falls 9-5
Down 5-3 in the top of the ninth inning with one out on the board, the Waterville Indians had two choices. Score at least two runs, or go home for the year.
The Indians instead settled on scoring six runs, knocking off Cannon Falls 9-5 and punching a ticket to the state tournament starting next weekend.
As for the winning sequence? Nolan Wetzel drew a walk. Tom Gannon reached on an error and Josh Cook drew another walk. With one out, Sam Stier came through with a huge sac fly to cut the deficit to 5-4. Then Luke Sellner delivered the game-tying RBI, followed by a Ben Boran single to put the Indians ahead 6-5.
Just to add more than a bit of insurance, Nolan Grose crushed a three run home run to put the Indians ahead by the game’s final score as Dallas McBroom took care of the pitching side — Dalton Grose got the start on the mound and went seven innings — of things with a scoreless bottom of the ninth.
And just like that, the Indians were headed to the MBA Class C Playoffs where they will face the Hanska Lakers at 1:30 p.m. in Shakopee.

Lakers falls to New Ulm 9-4
Faribault couldn’t make a comeback against New Ulm on Friday, falling short of a state tournament berth by just one game after falling earlier in the championship semifinals. The winner of the clash between the Lakers and New Ulm would have punched another ticket to the state tournament.
The Lakers will lament two chances to make the postseason slipping through their fingers, but after a quality season that saw Faribault turn into one of the hottest teams in the state, the Lakers will be hard pressed to remember much more than happy memories when it comes to this season.
