ATLANTA — Ketel Marte has blasted a pair of home runs and Corbin Carroll has added another, but the Diamondbacks’ defense failed right-hander Zac Gallen in the fourth inning, and what was once a four-run lead has been cut to 5-3 in the fifth inning on June 3 at Truist Park.

Marte drilled a solo shot in the first inning at 109.3 mph, then hit a two-run shot even harder, a liner that came off his bat at 113.2 mph. Both shots came off Braves right-hander Spencer Strider, who has allowed five runs on six hits with two walks and four strikeouts through five innings (85 pitches).

Gallen rolled through the first three innings and had not allowed a baserunner until Drake Baldwin’s solo homer with one out in the fourth.

Gallen had two outs and the bases empty in the fourth when Matt Olson reached on an infield single to short.

The next batter, Marcell Ozuna, hit a routine grounder to third, but the ball went under the glove of third baseman Eugenio Suarez and into left field. An aggressive send by new Braves third-base coach Fredi Gonzalez allowed Olson to score on the play, and an Ozzie Albies RBI single capped the scoring in the Braves’ three-run inning.

Carroll led off the fifth with his 17th home run this season, his second hit of the night.

Diamondbacks at Braves, 4:15 p.m., Ch. 34

Diamondbacks RHP Zac Gallen (3-7, 5.54) vs. Braves RHP Spencer Strider (0-3, 4.50).

At Truist Park: Gallen looks to get out of a month-long stretch of rough outings. Since allowing a run on two hits in a win over the Mets on May 6, Gallen has allowed 19 earned runs combined in his last 21 ⅓ innings pitched, over four starts. He’s been the losing pitcher in three of those past four. However, in his past two starts on the road, Gallen is 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA, though he has seven walks to 12 strikeouts. Gallen last faced the Braves on July 20, 2023, and gave up three earned runs in seven innings in a no-decision. … Strider is known as a power pitcher with a fastball that can reach triple digits, but the velocity is down this year, and he has only made three starts this season. A hamstring injury had him out for a month. Strider has pitched as many as five innings in just one of those starts. In a 2-0 loss at Philadelphia on May 27, he allowed one earned run on one hit with four walks and seven strikeouts in 4 ⅔ innings.
