Former Maine player of the year to make Double-A debut at Hadlock against the Sea Dogs
PORTLAND, Maine —
Former Thornton Academy standout, and 2022 Gatorade Maine Player of the Year for baseball, is set to make his Double-A debut at Hadlock Field on Thursday.
Cody Bowker, who is from Bowdoinham, was selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 3rd round of the 2025 MLB Draft and was just promoted to Double-A from Jersey Shore.
The right-handed pitcher is scheduled to start on Thursday for the Reading Fightin Phils against the Portland Sea Dogs in Portland.
First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. Hayden Mullins will be on the mound for Portland. If you can’t make it to the park, you can watch the game on MeTV, WMTW 8.2.
Bowker says his first season of professional baseball has been a big learning experience.
“I’m lucky enough. The Phillies have been amazing. I mean, they they they let me stay down at the complex and, and train with them. They run a bunch of camps where all of us get to be together down in Florida. So I’ve really enjoyed stuff like that. And to be honest, just taking each part of the year because it is my only job now is, you know, I need to get better at baseball,” Bowker told Maine’s Total Coverage on Wednesday.
He told Maine’s Total Coverage’s Sports Director Travis Lee this week he was looking forward to having dinner with his family.
Bowker helped lead Thornton Academy to its first baseball state championship in school history in 2022. He then pitched at Georgetown and Vanderbilt before being drafted.
