The Williamsport Crosscutters suffered a pair of losses to open a three game series against the Aberdeen IronBirds last week. Aberdeen opened the series with an 8-7 victory and held off a Williamsport comeback. Things went from bad to worse for the Crosscutters the next night as the Ironbirds soared to a 14-7 victory. Nick Romano led Williamsport at the plate going 3-4 with three RBIs in the loss.

Williamsport fell to 15-14 to start the second half. But things were about to turn around.

The Crosscutters closed out the series with a 12-8 victory. Williamsport racked up 16 hits. Nick Barone and Chris Stanfield led the way at the plate. Barone finished the night 4-5 with three RBIs while Stanfield was 3-4 with two RBIs and a walk.

Josh Willitts allowed one run in seven innings work on the mound. Willitts had seven strikeouts and picked up his third win of the season.

The train kept a rollin’ the next night as Williamsport returned home for a three game series against Mahoning Valley.

The Crosscutters took a 2-0 lead with two outs in the bottom of the second. Barone started the scoring with an RBI double to centerfield. Jake Zitella followed Barone with an RBI single to center.

The Scrappers got one run back in the top of the third, but Williamsport dropped another two-spot in the fourth to go up 4-1. Trey Wells crushed an 89 mph sinker to right field for a two-run triple in the inning.

The Crosscutters scored a fifth run on a single by Wells in the fifth inning and held on to win 5-3.

Saturday, the Crosscutters took it to the Scrappers and won easily 8-1. Bobby Helt pitched five scoreless innings and picked up his second win of the season.

Williamsport capped off the weekend with another 8-1 victory for their fourth-straight win.

James McCoy led the team at the plate going 3-4 with a solo home run in fifth. That was McCoy’s sixth homer this season tying Max Galvin, Maddox Mihalakis and Crosscutters teammate Matthew Williams for the league lead.

With the MLB Little League Classic at JourneyBank Ballpark on Sunday, Aug. 23, the Crosscutters embarked on a nine-game road trip that began Tuesday at State College.

The Crosscutters won’t return to JourneyBank Ballpark until Friday, Aug. 28.
