Royals’ Carter Jensen honors Children’s Mercy with custom cleats
KANSAS CITY, Mo. —
Players’ Weekend gave players from all 30 Major League Baseball teams a chance to showcase their personalities with customized bats, gloves and shoes.
The Kansas City Royals displayed some of their custom gear in the clubhouse Friday.
Carter Jensen, a Park Hill High School graduate, chose to honor Children’s Mercy Kansas City, an organization close to his heart and home.
Jensen has returned several times this season to meet young patients.
During a recent visit, he invited the children to decorate a pair of cleats with drawings and their names.
“We had Sharpies, and we just let the kids go wild on them,” Jensen said.
Jensen said the visits have given him perspective beyond baseball.
“There’s real stuff going on in the world,” he said. “If I’m able to help spread some light and spread some happiness, then I’ll do it every time.”
