KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Just less than two weeks after signing with the Kansas City Royals on a Major League contract, pitcher Tony Gonsolin is set to begin a rehab assignment.
Gonsolin, a former All-Star and World Series champion with the Los Angeles Dodgers, signed with Kansas City on Aug. 13. The club announced Tuesday that the 32-year-old is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment in Triple-A Omaha on Wednesday.
Gonsolin is recovering from right elbow surgery.
If he’s able to reach the MLB, Gonsolin could get a chance to prove to Royals leadership that he could be part of their 2027 rotation plan, as several pitchers in the organization deal with arm injuries that will greatly impact their ability to contribute next season.
Gonsolin, a former first-round pick of the Dodgers, was an All-Star in 2022 when he went 16-1 with a 2.14 ERA across 24 starts with Los Angeles.
The right-hander last pitched in the MLB on June 4, 2025, for the Dodgers.
