The Knights had a strong week, taking four of six against the Redbirds (71-61) at home. With this result, the Knights climbed back to better than .500 in the second half.
Pitcher David Sandlin, 25, had a fantastic start on Saturday. During a seven-inning game that was part of a doubleheader, Sandlin pitched a two-hit shutout with nine strikeouts and only one walk. In 59 1/3 innings with the Knights, Sandlin has a 2.28 ERA and a 3.83 FIP in a high-scoring environment. Incredibly, Triple-A hitters have slashed only .202/.298/.275 against him. Sandlin has struggled in his 24 2/3 innings in the majors (all this year), but it’s clear he deserves another shot sooner rather than later.

After pulling off a six-game sweep against the Lookouts (52-68) in Chattanooga, the Barons came back down to earth a bit. This week, the Barons split their six-game series at home against Rocket City (65-60). After a horrible first half, Birmingham is still in contention for a postseason spot due to their second-half record (in the North Division, Birmingham is one game behind Rocket City).
Catcher Jorge Corona, 25, only played in three games, but he made an enormous impact, going 3-for-10 with a homer, two triples, and two walks. Overall, Corona has played 53 games this season, all with the Barons. Last year Corona struggled at the plate, slashing .170/.314/.270. However, this season he has improved significantly, slashing .231/.318/.434 in a tough hitting environment. With this excellent performance that resulted in a 1.462 OPS for the week, Corona picked up his first weekly award of the season.

After winning back-to-back series with a 4-2 record, the Dash settled for a 3-3 split against the Hot Rods (79-45), who have been hot for a long time.
Just like last week, outfielder Nick McLain, 23, was unstoppable at the plate. This week, McLain went 6-for-14 with two homers, two doubles, three walks and four RBIs to finish with a 1.529 OPS. McLain earned a promotion from Kannapolis to Winston-Salem on July 31, and he has been crushing it since then, posting a .315/.463/.534 slash line in 20 games. Without McLain, the Dash offense would have looked entirely different over the past few weeks.

The Cannon Ballers stumbled a bit this week, dropping four of six on the road against Hill City (54-71).
Infielder Efren Teran, 19, made a sizable step forward, going 9-for-18 with three doubles for a 1.167 OPS week. In 67 games with the Cannon Ballers, Teran is slashing .278/.368/.319. With Kannapolis, Teran has not shown much power, but he has found plenty of other ways of reaching base. Teran also played in the Complex League, where he slashed .302/.318/.535 and launched three homers in 13 games at that level. Teran plays second base, third base and shortstop, so he has a decent amount of versatility. Well done to Teran, who slashed .429/.471/.508 in August, as he was a very tough customer at the plate.
