KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Just days after the Kansas City Royals waived reliever John Schreiber, he’s now found a home with an AL playoff contender.
Schreiber, who is 1-3 with a 3.65 ERA in 2026 through 55 appearances with Kansas City, was waived on Saturday by the Royals.
On Monday, the New York Yankees claimed him.
That puts Schreiber in line to work in relief for a team that is the front-runner for the top AL Wild Card playoff spot.
Schreiber leaves Kansas City after signing as a free agent ahead of the 2024 season. In three years with Kansas City, he pitched 165 innings and had an 8-9 record and 3.71 ERA.
In 2026, Schreiber has struggled against lefties, allowing a .326 batting average, but has dominated right-handed hitters. Against righties, the 32-year-old has allowed just a .143 batting average this year.
