Well look at that, the Dodgers actually brought in Tanner Scott in a tie game, he didn’t give up the lead, and the Dodgers won the game in walk-off fashion. Could things be trending better in that area?
After the game on Tuesday night, Scott spoke to reporters about his first clean inning in what seems like forever. He noted that he, assistant pitching coach Connor McGuinness, bullpen coach Josh Bard, and pitching coach Mark Prior did a “deep dive” on his struggles as of late.
“I was flying open, lower half leading to upper half. Everything was popping out a little early, and not staying through a pitch. It was leading to locations being terrible.”
For one game at least, it seems like the quartet fixed Scott’s issues. He struck out the first two batters he faced, and then got Brandon Nimmo to ground out to second to end the inning. Freddie Freeman then did Freddie Freeman things, doubling in the winning run in the bottom of the inning.
This was the second game in a row where the Dodgers and Mets went to extra innings, and that Dave Roberts called on Scott to keep the score tied. Monday it didn’t work out. Tuesday it did. Whether Scott is back to being a dominant bullpen piece remains to be seen.
Wednesday, the Dodgers will try to even the season series with the Mets. They will face Griffin Canning, who pitched in the one game the Dodgers took in New York. He pitched only 2.2 innings, allowing three earned, before the rain delayed the game. It eventually took 13 innings to end that game, with Scott blowing the save that night, also.
Having pitched in the last two games, it is unlikely that Scott will pitch in Wednesday’s game. The Dodgers will send Tony Gonsolin to the mound with the hope that he is able to complete six full innings like in his last outing, but not allow five earned, nor the four home runs that constituted that start.
