Eli White has proven to be a highly impactful trade acquisition since coming over from Atlanta at the deadline, but now the Red Sox are concerned about the possibility he might need to miss time.
White was set to undergo imaging on his right foot Wednesday after he jammed it against the wall going for a ball in Tuesday night’s loss.
Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy said pregame that White was “very sore” and they were still trying to get a sense of the severity of his injury.
“On his foot, that foot jammed into that garage door when he went up there and his foot shoved into that garage door,” Tracy said. “So he’s sore, he’s out.”
Tracy added that the injury seemed to worsen overnight.
“We were optimistic about it last night but he was definitely more sore today,” Tracy said. “He jammed it pretty good.”
Since joining the Red Sox White is batting .276 with one home run, 12 RBI and a .679 OPS in 27 games, including a red hot stretch in which he hit three doubles with a home run over the first eight games of September.
With Ceddanne Rafaela still sidelined with his strained right quad, Nate Eaton got the start in center field on Wednesday.
