After making their postseason return, the Brenham Cubettes earned several all-district accolades.

Seniors Avery Maurer and Sarah Mabie as well as junior pitcher Kylie Baker all earned first team all-district honors after successful district seasons. Three other Cubettes also earned recognition for their contributions during district play.

Maurer led the Cubettes with a .381 average in district play, recording 16 hits and a .762 slugging percentage. She tallied five doubles, a triple and three home runs against a tough District 17-5A schedule and drove in 10 runs.

She recorded two of her four three-hit games this season against district foes. Maurer hit her only triple in a walk-off fashion to defeat Montgomery 11-10 as part of a three-hit night at Alumni Field on March 7. The senior also earned three hits at Huntsville in a 7-6 loss on March 11.

Her 15 hard-hit balls in district play also led the Cubettes, showing her hard contact ability. She came around to score 19 times in district play, leading Brenham.

Mabie also showcased plenty of power in district play by equaling Maurer’s five doubles and three home runs. However, she led Brenham with 14 RBI in the Cubettes’ 12 district games with second-best marks in slugging percentage (.737) and a 1.204 OPS.

Her only three-hit game of the season came against Rudder on March 21. Two of her three hits came in the final three innings with a home run and a double, leading the Cubettes to a 13-3 win after they trailed 3-0 entering the top of the fifth.

Mabie also earned two-hit days against Huntsville twice and once against eventual Class 5A Division II state champion Lake Creek on April 17.

Baker led from the pitching circle this season, throwing 52 innings and recording a 3.37 earned run average in district play. She earned 70 strikeouts with just 24 walks and 25 earned runs. Nearly 50 runners were left on base with Baker in the circle.

Her best pitching effort in district play came against Montgomery in a crucial road matchup for playoff positioning on April 4. She earned a complete game on 132 pitches of work with nine strikeouts.

She earned at least six strikeouts in six more district games.

Baker also put in a respectable district season at the plate, hitting for a .300 average with nine hits and five RBI. Her only home run of the season came against A&M Consolidated on April 11, which gave Brenham the lead in the seventh before the Cubettes lost 9-8.

Senior Kinley Antkowiak and junior Mckenzie Tiemann earned all-district second team honors after successful district campaigns at their respective positions.

Antkowiak was second on Brenham’s RBI leaderboard in district play with 12 runs driven in. She earned a season-high five RBI in the Cubettes’ 16-6 win over A&M Consolidated on March 18, which also accounted for one of her two three-hit efforts this year.

Tiemann, who spent time at second and third base this year, recorded five stolen bases and scored 10 times in district play. Her three sacrifice hits and bunts led Brenham this district season.

Freshman pitcher Laityn Davis was named an honorable mention all-district player after a successful debut season as a Cubette. She pitched 17 1/3 innings with 10 strikeouts and eight walks.

Davis also led Brenham with a .543 on-base percentage in district play thanks in large part to her team-leading nine walks in that span.

She also led the Cubettes in several advanced analytics at the plate through the district season. Davis recorded a .533 batting average on balls in play with a .462 batting average with runners in scoring position.

Two of Davis’ three multi-hit games this year came in district play. She tallied three hits along with her only home run of the season in Brenham’s 12-2 run-rule win over Huntsville on April 8. She also earned a 2-for-3 performance against A&M Consolidated on April 11.

In addition to their honors on the field, all of the Brenham Cubettes and their managers earned academic all-district honors. Brenham’s 20 academic all-district honorees mark the most in District 17-5A with Lake Creek and College Station each having 15 honorees to tie for second in that category.

Academic all-district honorees maintained a 90 grade average during district play.

This season marks at least the second straight that all members of the Brenham Cubette softball team have earned academic all-district honors.

Brenham’s all-district selections came after the Cubettes recorded a 6-6 district record and finished fourth in the standings. Brenham went on to win the bi-district championship in a thrilling three-game series against Kingwood Park before falling in a hard-fought three-game area round series against Nederland.

Each team’s available number of all-district selections are determined by its finish in the district standings.
