The Red Sox are down another outfielder after placing Eli White on the injured list with a “right foot ligament injury” before Friday night’s series opener against the visiting Kansas City Royals.

They recalled infielder Anthony Seigler from Triple-A Worcester to fill White’s spot on the roster.

White underwent both a CT scan and MRI after he jammed his foot against the centerfield wall’s garage door in the previous night’s loss, and the pain worsened overnight.

“That foot jammed into that garage door when he went up there, and his foot shoved into that garage door,” interim manager Chad Tracy explained Wednesday. “So he’s sore.”

White was manning the middle of the outfield as everyday centerfielder Ceddanne Rafaela went on the 10-day IL with a right quadriceps strain. That move, retroactive to last Thursday, makes Rafaela eligible to return Sunday, Sept. 13.

The Red Sox acquired White, who ranks in the 100th MLB percentile in Sprint Speed this season, from the Atlanta Braves at this summer’s trade deadline. He’s hit .276 with a .679 OPS in 27 games for Boston since, with three doubles, a home run, 10 runs and 12 RBI.
