The Houston Astros won’t be getting Carlos Correa back after all.
Correa has been out since the beginning of May due to an ankle injury, but manager Joe Espada announced on Tuesday that the team is shutting down Correa for the season.
Carlos Correa did not suffer a setback or any reoccurrence of an injury. Joe Espada said the daily workload and recovery just became too much for Correa to handle. https://t.co/T7E69lRAxH

Correa underwent surgery in May that was expected to be season-ending. He had surgery to repair a torn tendon in his left ankle. However, in August, Correa opened the door for a possible return, which would’ve been huge for Houston.
Espada added that the most important thing for Correa is to “focus on next season.”
Correa hit .279 with 3 home runs and 16 RBI before suffering the injury. In his absence, the Astros have used Nick Allen, Braden Shewmake and Jeremy Pena at shortstop. Pena has played well, hitting .268 with 17 home runs and 47 RBI.
Nonetheless, the Astros are doing whatever they can to secure a spot in the postseason. As of Tuesday, the Astros were one game ahead of the Texas Rangers in the American League West standings with a 75-75 record.
At the end of the day, Carlos Correa won’t be playing until next season.
