CINCINNATI – Chalk one up for the reserves.

Andruw Monasterio kicked off the scoring with a run-scoring single in the third inning, Daz Cameron homered in the fifth and Isaac Collins banged a three-run homer in the ninth as the Milwaukee Brewers beat up on the Cincinnati Reds, 9-1, on Wednesday afternoon, June 4, at Great American Ball Park to take the teams’ three-game series.

Eric Haase also had a run-scoring single, giving the Brewers big production from four players who either haven’t seen a whole lot of playing time to this point of the season or weren’t in the starting lineup (Collins).

The win was especially impressive considering it came at the expense of tough left-hander Andrew Abbott, who entered on a personal three-game winning streak and with a 1.51 ERA.

Milwaukee’s pitching duo of left-hander DL Hall and right-hander Quinn Priester, meanwhile, worked to great effect for the second straight time with Hall tossing three scoreless innings and Priester following with five innings for the victory.

The Brewers finished with 13 hits in all, with Jackson Chourio also homering, as they put the wraps on a very successful 5-1 road trip.

BOX SCORE: Brewers 9, Reds 1

A familiar face returns

On Sunday, Wade Miley was released by the Reds.

In the eighth inning he was pitching against his former mates, having been re-signed and added to the roster before the game with Hunter Greene being placed on the injured list with a groin injury.

Miley, who underwent Tommy John surgery last spring while with the Brewers, allowed three hits in his inning of work but only a run, on Haase’s one-out single that made it a 6-1 game.

He stayed in for the ninth and it got even worse, as following consecutive singles by Chourio and Christian Yelich, Collins homered to left one-half inning after being inserted into the game.

Daz Cameron gets into the books

Rhys Hoskins drew a leadoff walk in the sixth and was followed by a 437-foot blast to left-center by Cameron to up Milwaukee’s advantage to 5-1.

The homer was Cameron’s first with the Brewers. If you were wondering, his father Mike Cameron’s last homer with the Brewers came on Sept. 30, 2009.

Jackson Chourio goes yard

Brice Turang’s one-out infield dribbler loomed large when, two batters later, Chourio muscled a first-pitch cutter out over the plate 389 feet out into the right-field seats for a 3-0 lead.

It was Chourio’s 10th of the season, making him the second Brewers player to reach double digits (Christian Yelich with 13).

Cincinnati got one of those runs back against Priester in the fifth when Jose Trevino scored on a Matt McLain groundout.

Andruw Monasterio breaks the ice

Abbott sailed through the Brewers’ first eight hitters with minimal exertion before Turang became the first to reach with his two-out double in the third.

He was followed by Monasterio – hitting leadoff for the first time this season – who lined a single to left to plate the game’s first run.

Hall, meanwhile, extracted himself from a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the bottom of the third to finish three scoreless innings as an opener for the second straight game.

He allowed a hit with two walks and struck out three.
