Rays 5, Rangers 1
I regret to inform you that the Texas Rangers lost.
Lost in a particularly un-fun way, what with there being a rain delay, little offense, and a breakdown of relief pitching and defense.
Tyler Mahle’s ERA actually jumped all the way up to 2.02, the first time since early in his second start of the season it has been above 2.
Mahle also allowed four runs in a game for the first time all season. One of those came on an opposite field home run by Kameron Misner on an 0-2 pitch up and out of the zone that we couldn’t actually see leave the park, what with the wacky camera locations and such, but which we were assured did leave the park. There was a booth review and everything.
It was not particularly well hit. It had a .030 xBA. It would have been a home run in just two parks. This park, unfortunately, was one of them.
Jacob Latz was summoned with the bases loaded and one out in the sixth to try to keep the game at 1-0. All three runners ended up scoring, on a wild pitch, an infield single that went around 60 feet, and a bad throw on a stolen base attempt.
Codi Heuer ended up getting into the game, to complicate your future Sporcle quiz efforts.
Also there were some nice diving catches in the outfield by the Texas Rangers.
Sadly, the Rangers only registered four hits in the game. They drew one walk. It was an offensive disappointment, once more.
If you are looking for some sort of positive, Adolis Garcia came off the bench with an RBI single, and had another hard hit ball. There’s that.
Tyler Mahle’s fastball peaked at 94.0 mph, averaging 91.5 mph. Jacob Latz hit 95.5 mph with his fastball. Codi Heuer’s fastball topped out at 96.5 mph.
Adolis Garcia had a 106.0 mph single and a 103.2 mph ground out. Marcus Semien had a 101.4 mph ground out.
Will there be rain in the next game? Will the Rangers score multiple runs? I’m on the edge of my seat…
