LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The Commissioners Court approved a non-binding resolution calling for a Texas Rangers probe into why and how Mark Meurer drew a paycheck for nine months despite not holding the Precinct 2 commissioner seat.
Commissioner Mike Dalby said he endorses everything within the resolution but voted against it.
County Judge Curtis Parrish was present but did not vote.
Judge Parrish appointed Meurer to Precinct 2 last December after removing Commissioner Jason Corley.
A judge ultimately returned the seat to Corley, but the county kept paying Meurer nearly $70,000.
Meurer and Judge Parrish say it’s because the case wasn’t resolved until Meurer dropped out of an appeal last week.
Meurer said he will pay back every cent of the money since he set it aside.
The Lubbock County district attorney has opened an investigation into a pay dispute in Precinct 2.
District Attorney Sunshine Stanek told the court she does not need it to tell her to do something she is already working on.
