KENNEWICK, Wash. – A local baseball star from Kennewick is making waves on Major League Baseball draft boards. Danny Dickinson, a Kennewick High School alum, is gaining attention as a potential high draft pick.
Dickinson, who helped lead the Kennewick Lions to the 3A State Championship game in 2022, graduated as the MCC Baseball Player of the Year. Despite his achievements, he initially received little attention and chose to attend Utah Valley.
Now, after transferring to Louisiana State University (LSU), Dickinson is turning heads. “I mean, it’s a dream come true,” he said.
Reflecting on his journey, Dickinson shared, “Something that I’ve worked hard for my whole life. Being at Kennewick, I kind of just was this small town, underrated kid that took a chance on himself when he walked on at Utah Valley and had dreams and aspirations of being where I am now. And it’s just a testament to hard work.”
As a preseason All-American, Dickinson has been focusing on improving his strength and athleticism. Facing top-tier pitchers has also been a significant part of his development. He emphasized the importance of team chemistry, recalling his senior year at Kennewick. “We weren’t the best athletically, we weren’t the best physically, but we were extremely close and we loved each other and we played for each other and that definitely carried us through the season,” he said.
Dickinson was one of the biggest transfers in college baseball and is now aiming to lead LSU on a deep postseason run. He is also working on enhancing his consistency. He stressed the value of self-belief, stating, “Don’t ever listen to what other people have to say about you. I was super underrated my entire high school career. Even my freshman year at college. I just had a dream deep down in my heart, in my head, that I was going to be a professional baseball player one day, and I never let anyone tell me differently. Keep your circle small. Keep the love around you strong. And just keep working hard and never give up.”
Dickinson is expected to be drafted in the same class as his former rival and friend, Payton Graham. They remain in contact and continue to wish each other luck.
