Emilio Págan discusses Reds win vs. Milwaukee Brewers
Reds reliever Emilio Págan recorded his 15th save after T.J. Friedl robbed a would-be game-tying homer to end the June 3 victory against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Cincinnati Reds outfielder TJ Friedl appeared on MLB Network to discuss his robbery June 3 of the Milwaukee Brewers‘ Jake Bauers to end the game, and Fanduel Sports Network’s Jim Day spoke during the broadcast June 4 about a specific part of Friedl’s appearance that got him in trouble with his teammates.
“They asked him about a pregame meal,” Day said of Friedl’s interview. “He said I’m a steak and eggs kind of guy before the game. But he said there was a big spread of donuts – and he loves donuts – this morning. And he was very tempted to grab one and eat one, but he refrained. And that’s what he said on the interview. But when he came back in, half the team was waiting for him. ‘You liar! You lied on national TV!’ Because they saw him eat the donut. Donut-gate!”
“Just because he ate a donut before the game doesn’t make him a bad guy,” Day added.
Friedl said the catch at the wall was better than any walk-off hit he’s had.
Fanduel’s John Sadak said Sports Info Solutions’ Mark Simon reported that it was the 12th time since 2004 in MLB that someone robbed a potential tying or go-ahead homer for the final out of the game.
