Red Sox make Chad Tracy permanent manager, extend Craig Breslow

BOSTON —
The Boston Red Sox have named Chad Tracy the club’s 49th manager, agreeing to a three-year contract that runs through the 2029 season with a club option for 2030.
“Chad was asked to step into a difficult situation with little notice, but the trust he immediately commanded at the major league level was earned through years of work across our organization,” Red Sox President and CEO Sam Kennedy said. “What this team has accomplished over the past several months has been historic. Results matter greatly in this business, but so do judgment, character and the ability to bring out the best in others.”
Tracy, 41, took over as the Red Sox’s interim manager on April 26 and quickly sparked one of baseball’s most impressive turnarounds. After inheriting a 10-17 team, Boston went 74-55 (.574) under his leadership, posting the American League’s second-best record during that span and the fifth-best mark in the majors.
The Red Sox also produced a historic 27-3 stretch from July 3-Aug. 7, highlighted by a club-record-tying 15-game winning streak.
Before joining Boston, Tracy managed Triple-A Worcester from 2022-25 after spending seven seasons in the Los Angeles Angels organization. A former third-round draft pick by the Texas Rangers, he played eight professional seasons following a standout career at Pepperdine.
The Red Sox also announced they have exercised the club’s 2029 and 2030 contract options on Chief Baseball Officer Craig Breslow.
“Craig and Chad are two exceptionally talented leaders who have earned these opportunities in very different ways,” Kennedy said. “Over the last three years, we have watched Craig bring clarity, discipline and conviction to the work of building our baseball operation.”
Breslow, 46, was hired as the Red Sox’s chief baseball officer on Oct. 25, 2023, becoming the fourth former Boston player to lead the club’s baseball operations and the first since Haywood Sullivan.
A member of the 2013 World Series championship team, Breslow has overseen a Red Sox club that has gone 254-226 (.529) during his first three seasons, the third-best record in the American League. Before returning to Boston, Breslow spent five seasons in the Chicago Cubs’ front office.
