In the Pacific League of Japanese professional baseball, the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks won the championship on September 17 for the third straight year. Including the years before the team became SoftBank, this was their 22nd league title. This season, SoftBank finished second in the interleague competition with the Central League and gained momentum. Since June 30, the Hawks have remained in first place and pulled far ahead of the other teams.
