Less than a week after Steve Cohen revealed that he would be bringing new “certain voices” into the front office to support president of baseball operations David Stearns, the Mets have brought in Derek Falvey as a senior advisor for baseball operations.
The former POBO of the Minnesota Twins will report directly to Stearns, where he will serve as “a trusted voice across a wide range of baseball operations decisions.”
“I’m thrilled to welcome Derek, his wife Meghan, and their children to the Mets,” Stearns said. “Throughout his career, Derek has distinguished himself as one of the most respected executives in our sport. His experience across the full scope of baseball operations functions and his familiarity with leading an organization will serve as a great addition to our front office group.”
Falvey began with the Twins in 2016 as their chief baseball officer, serving there for four seasons before being promoted to president of baseball operations. There, he built teams that made the postseason four times and won the American League Central in 2019, 2020, and 2023.

What I’ve always loved most about this game is being part of a team, and I look forward to bringing my experiences and contributing to this group in any way I can. In an additional move, the Mets promoted Kris Gross to assistant general manager of scouting, rising through the ranks that began with him overseeing amateur scouting in the fall of 2023. Last winter, he was promoted to head of international scouting, which came with the title of vice president of amateur and international scouting.
In this new position, Gross will oversee the Mets’ scouting and drafting of amateur players in both the United States and international markets.
“Scouting plays a crucial role in our ability to build a sustainable winning organization,” Gross said. “I would like to thank the entire amateur and international scouting departments, whose tireless work allows me to be successful. Their dedication is the reason we are able to find exciting young Major League players as well as promising prospects. I am excited to continue the work we are doing to bring more homegrown talent to Queens.”
