After MLB moved up Sunday’s regular season finale between the Cubs and Red Sox at Fenway Park for a Friday doubleheader, Red Sox manager Chad Tracy said that the weather for the weekend “doesn’t look good” and that talks are “ongoing about possibly playing the season’s final game in another city if a weather window doesn’t materialize.” Saturday’s game, which is currently scheduled to be played at 7:15pm ET, is “likely to be impacted” by an expected nor’easter this weekend. If the game were moved, Tracy said that “he’s under the impression the final game would be played on Sunday, most likely at around” 3pm, “when every other game across the league is scheduled to begin” (BOSTON HERALD, 9/24). One “possible scenario could involve playing one game Friday at Fenway Park, then traveling to Florida to finish the series Saturday and Sunday at Tropicana Field.” But Tracy “seemed more certain the teams would play both games Friday” (THE ATHLETIC, 9/24).
Meanwhile, the Yankees announced that a Saturday clash with the Orioles “was rescheduled and will be made up as the first contest of a single-admission doubleheader on Friday” due to incoming “sustained inclement weather.” The Yankees were “initially set to honor” Baseball HOFer CC Sabathia “with a uniform number retirement and Monument Park plaque on Saturday, although the ceremony was also moved up to Friday.” It will “take place prior to the first game of the doubleheader” (BLEACHER REPORT, 9/24).
