Angels Announce Injury News After Outfielder Leaves Red Sox Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

The Los Angeles Angels beat the Boston Red Sox on Monday and Tuesday, but it was no thanks to right fielder Jorge Soler. The 33-year-old was hitless in his last four games before Wednesday afternoon’s matchup with Boston, when he hit an infield single to shortstop.

Soler came into Wednesday slashing just .213/.286/.377, but ranked sixth on the team with eight homers and fourth with 24 RBI. The 6-foot-4-inch, 235-pounder also ranked fourth with 78 total bases, second with 19 walks, and third with 65 strikeouts.

Soler got subbed out for fellow outfielder Matthew Lugo in the bottom of the third inning on Wednesday.

The Angels didn’t initially announce the reason for Soler’s exit (via MLB.com’s Rhett Bollinger), but they have since revealed an update, announcing that Soler left the game due to groin tightness.

“Jorge Soler was removed from today’s game with groin tightness,” the team wrote on X.

Soler played for the Cuban national baseball team in the 2010 World Junior Baseball Championship before signing a nine-year, $30 million deal with the Chicago Cubs in June 2012. The club called him up in August 2014 and he was a part of its 2016 championship team.

The Cubs then traded Soler to the Kansas City Royals in December 2016, and he led the AL with 48 homers in 2019. The latter team then dealt the journeyman to the Atlanta Braves at the 2021 trade deadline, and he won the World Series MVP award that postseason. The Braves beat the Houston Astros in six games.

Atlanta then traded Soler to the San Francisco Giants in February 2024, who then sent him back to Atlanta that July. The Braves shipped him out to the Angels this past October.
