Thursday marks the seventh time in 14 days that the Dodgers and Mets will play each other. This one is the first day game of the bunch, finishing off the season series at Dodger Stadium.
The Mets won two of three games in both New York and Los Angeles, thanks in large part to their pitching staff having their way with the Dodgers.
The Dodgers have scored only 20 runs in six games, and four of those tallies came in extra innings. They’ve hit just .205/.290/.314 against New York pitchers.
Mets starters have a 2.76 ERA, 1.041 WHIP, 30 strikeouts, and 13 walks in 32⅔ innings against the Dodgers. Five of the six starters have lasted at least five innings, and the only one that didn’t was interrupted by a 98-minute rain delay on May 23 at Citi Field. Griffin Canning was the starter that night who left after only eight outs, but made up for lost time with six scoreless innings on Wednesday night at Dodger Stadium.
The longest start was by left-hander David Peterson, who beat LA on May 24 with 7⅔ innings to tie his career high. He gets the start in Thursday’s series finale.
There hasn’t been much relief for Dodgers hitters against the Mets bullpen, with New York relievers posting a 2.36 ERA, 1.163 WHIP, 30 strikeouts and seven walks in 26⅔ frames.
“If you look back at the two series we’ve played against these guys, they’ve pitched us really well,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said after Wednesday’s loss, as shown on SportsNetLA. “Execution, sequencing, and we certainly are kind of one step behind as far as anticipating what they’re going to do. And when we do get opportunities with mistakes in the hitting zone and taking advantage.”
So far in the six meetings, the Dodgers have lost all four games in which they scored three or fewer runs, but won the other two.
