For the second straight season, James Wood of Olney was named the Washington Nationals Player of the Year. Wood headlined the annual end-of-season baseball awards, as voted on by members of the local media.
Wood represented the Nationals in the 2026 Major League Baseball All-Star Game for the second consecutive season.
He is one of just five players in Major League Baseball to hit at least 30 home runs and steal at least 20 bases this season, and just one of two players to have at least 100 walks and 100 runs scored.
Batting leadoff for the majority of the season, Wood clubbed 10 leadoff home runs. Wood earned two National League Player of the Week Awards this season.
Wood grew up playing Little League baseball for the Olney Boys and Girls Club. He was drafted by San Diego in 2021 and then traded to the Nationals in 2022.
