Thanks to a 10-run seventh inning, the Yankees got back in the win column on Tuesday night. Austin Wells’ grand slam put the cap on a wild sequence of events, as the Yankees turned a tight contest into a laugher.

As that was going down, there was plenty of other action around baseball. Let’s check in on what happened in today’s Rivalry Roundup.

Texas Rangers (18-18) 6, Boston Red Sox (18-19) 1

The Rangers’ offense has struggled to the point of making a change at hitting coach and bringing in Bret Boone. Results of that so far aren’t too bad, as they put up 16 hits in a win over the Red Sox.

Texas got on the board in the first inning with some assistance from a Lucas Giolito pitch with a runner on third. However, they full broke things open in the fourth. With seven hits in the frame, the Rangers batted around, putting up a five spot in the frame.

As all that was going on, Texas also got a very strong outing from Nathan Eovaldi. Facing one of his former teams, Eovaldi allowed one run on five hits and a walk in six innings, which was plenty good enough.

On the offensive side of things, Will Smith and Adolis García both had three-hit days, as six Rangers in all had multi-hit performances.

Milwaukee Brewers (19-18) 4, Houston Astros (17-18) 3

The Brewers got Astros starter Hayden Wesneski for four runs in the first inning, and that ended up being enough to survive an Astros rally.

Despite getting two outs in the first before suffering any damage, Wesneski allowed Rhys Hoskins and Jake Bauers to double and homer respectively, as Milwaukee got off to an early lead. Wesneski and the Astros’ bullpen wasn’t terrible after that, as they combined to allow just three hits the rest of the way. The damage had already been done, however.

Milwaukee starter Chad Patrick started the game with six scoreless innings, and didn’t allow Houston to get on the board until a Brendan Rogers three-run homer with two outs in the seventh. The Astros had a chance to tie or take the lead after that, but they left the bases loaded in the eighth, and that ended up being that.

Other Games

Washington Nationals (17-19) 10, Cleveland Guardians (20-15) 9 – Game 1: Despite a six-run seventh inning that saw Cleveland rally to take the lead, the Nationals answered right back with four runs to win the first game of their doubleheader. In total, the teams combined for 24 hits and nine walks, but José Tena’s seventh inning double ended up being the one that proved the difference.

Cleveland Guardians (21-15) 9, Washington Nationals (17-20) 1 – Game 2: The Guardians scored the same number of runs as they did in the first game, but their pitching was just a tad bit improved in the second. Ben Lively gave them 5.1 solid innings of one-run ball in this game, while Carlos Santana drove in three runs in a winning effort.

Minnesota Twins (16-20) 9, Baltimore Orioles (13-21) 1: The Orioles’ starting pitching struggles continued as the Twins crushed Cade Povich for five runs in six innings. Byron Buxton drove home four runs and Carlos Correa three, as seven Twins picked up at least one hit on the day.

Seattle Mariners (21-14) 5, Athletics (20-17) 3: Down to their last two outs, the Mariners went walk, single, HBP, single, sacrifice fly to storm back and beat the A’s. Seattle scored a run each in the first two innings, but then managed nothing in the third though eights, as the A’s eventually took the lead. However, the M’s then managed a rally in the ninth, with Cal Raleigh’s two-RBI single providing the big blow.

Note: The Tigers’ scheduled game against the Rockies was rained out and is scheduled to be made up on Thursday.
