There is an awful lot that the New York Mets need to figure out during the offseason after a 2026 season to forget.
The Mets have ended the season rock bottom of the NL East with a dismal 74-88 record on the year.
Having made decisions on the coaching staff already, the Mets can now turn their attention towards strengthening their roster for next year.
There has not been too much to shout about for Mets fans this season, but rookie Carson Benge has certainly provided some cause for optimism.

In his first season in the league, Benge hit 20 homers, 65 RBIs and totalled 168 hits, with an average of .282.
When asked why he’s confident the Mets could compete next year, Soto replied: “Carson Benge.”
“That’s the confidence we have. We have a really good, talented, really young core that can help us. We just have to take them on the right path, show them where to go and how to go about this stuff, and play the game.”
Benge is among the favourites for the Rookie of the Year award, but he faces strong competition from the likes of Kevin McGonigle and Sal Stewart.

“What he’s been showing – not only his offensive side – it’s more the defensive side, too. He’s been showing it day in and day out, running the bases, stealing bags, and all that kinda stuff. He’s a superstar. He’s been doing a really good job,” Soto added.
The only way is up for the Mets after they finished fifth in the NL East this season, but they have a lot to sort out if they are going to rival the Braves and the Phillies next year.
