Cosmic Baseball brings hockey spinoff to Lake Placid Olympic Center
The game is a spinoff of Cosmic Baseball, a viral sensation that sold out stadiums throughout the summer.
LAKE PLACID, N.Y. —
A new nationwide trend is combining entertainment with America’s favorite sports. From the Harlem Globetrotters to the Savannah Bananas, new leagues are emerging across different sporting events, including basketball, baseball, and soon — hockey.
In December, Lake Placid will host the first-ever Cosmic Hockey game at the historic Herb Brooks Arena.
The game is a play on Cosmic Baseball, which is an entertainment-focused baseball game that is played under stadium black lights with glow-in-the-dark jerseys and UV-reflective equipment. The traditional rules of baseball don’t apply. The games rely on music, special effects, and fan participation.
The Virginia-based team that pioneered the sport, the Tri-City Chili Peppers, is now partnering with Cosmic Hockey to expand the viral sensation.
