Emmaus athletic director Rebecca George has announced that Lou Orth has been approved by the East Penn School District Board of Directors as the high school’s new baseball coach.
Orth replaces Jeremy Hass, who led the program for eight seasons and went 102-65, including 7-12 last spring.
Under Haas, a Southern Lehigh and George Mason University product, the Green Hornets won back-to-back Eastern Pennsylvania championships in 2021 and 2022 and also won the District 11 6A gold in 2021 and reached the second round of the PIAA tournament before losing to eventual state champ La Salle College High School.
In a release, Emmaus said that Orth, who is the offensive coordinator for the Emmaus football team, has been coaching at the high school, collegiate and professional levels for more than 30 years.
He is one of the directors for the Phillies Baseball Academy and also coaches the Special Olympics baseball team for Pennsylvania and South Jersey.
Prior to coming to Emmaus, he was an assistant baseball and football coach at Schuylkill Valley High School in District 3 and served as an assistant coach at New Hope-Solebury. He also was the head coach baseball and football coach at Valley Forge Military College for seven years before Valley Forge closed its school.
He also is a head coach and player in the Bux-Mont Men’s Senior Baseball League and has been involved with that league since 1995.
In football, Orth coached at Thiel College in Greenville, Mercer County. He began his career as an assistant football coach at Widener University and also served as the offensive coordinator, quarterbacks coach and the recruiting coordinator at Farleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey. Orth was also the running backs coach at Albright College, where he was responsible for the run game and recruiting.
