Boston Red Sox set roster for 2026 American League Wild Card Series

BOSTON —
Left-handed pitcher Garrett Crochet is back on the Boston Red Sox’ postseason roster after the club reinstated him from the 60-day injured list as they prepare to face the New York Yankees in the American League Wild Card Series.
Crochet has not pitched since April 25 because of left shoulder inflammation.
“He’s worked very hard to get everything back strong the way it needs to be, but we’re still going to be evaluating him daily to see where he’s at,” manager Chad Tracy said.
The Red Sox transferred right-handed pitcher Justin Slaten to the 60-day injured list to clear a roster spot for Crochet.
Boston will carry 12 pitchers into the best-of-three series: Brayan Bello, Jake Bennett, Aroldis Chapman, Crochet, Alec Gamboa, Sonny Gray, Erik Miller, Wyatt Olds, Ranger Suarez, Payton Tolle, Greg Weissert and Garrett Whitlock.
The Red Sox’ catching corps consists of Adley Rutschman and Connor Wong.
The team’s five infielders are Willson Contreras, Caleb Durbin, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Andruw Monasterio and Trevor Story.
Boston’s outfielders are Wilyer Abreu, Roman Anthony, Jarren Duran, Jahmai Jones and Ceddanne Rafaela. Nate Eaton and Nick Sogard round out the roster as utility players.
The Red Sox dropped to 32-46 on June 24 before going a major league-best 55-29 the rest of the way. Boston is just the fourth team to reach the postseason after falling 14 games under .500, joining the 1914 Boston Braves and the 2005 Houston Astros.
Injured Yankees captain Aaron Judge was left off New York’s roster for its the best-of-three series.
Sidelined since Sept. 16 by a strained right calf, Judge took live batting practice on the field Monday, a day ahead of the series opener, in an effort to persuade manager Aaron Boone. He walked twice, hit a comebacker to the mound and took a called third strike against teammates Ryan Weathers and Elmer RodrÃguez.
Giancarlo Stanton, out since April 24 because of strained calf muscles in both legs, was included. So was center fielder Trent Grisham.
The Red Sox open the American League Wild Card Series against the Yankees on Tuesday night at Yankee Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 8 p.m. EDT.
