Major League Baseball announced today that Colorado Rockies IF/OF Cole Carrigg has been selected as the National League’s Rookie of the Month for September. He joins TJ Rumfield, who won back-to-back awards in May and June.
Carrigg burst onto the scene in June — quite literally, with a triple in his very first at-bat. He’s had some ups and downs, but overall finished on a high note with a home run in the final game against the Chicago White Sox.
In 24 games in September, Carrigg slashed .327/.340/.571 with four doubles, a triple, six home runs and 17 RBI. He led qualified rookies in at-bats (98), home runs (6), RBI (17) and slugging percentage (.571) while being among NL rookie leaders in runs scored (12, T-3rd), doubles (4, T-3rd), stolen bases (3, T-2nd), average (.327, 2nd) and OPS (.911, 3rd).
Carrigg joins Josh Rutledge (July 2012), David Dahl (August 2016) and Nolan Jones (September 2023) as the only Rockies rookies to bat at least .300 and record at least 11 extra-base hits and three stolen bases in a calendar month.
Carrigg also becomes the 10th Rockies player to receive the Rookie of the Month Award, joining TJ Rumfield (May/June 2026), Nolan Jones (September/October 2023), Antonio Senzatela (April 2017), Trevor Story (April 2016), Ian Stewart (July 2008), Troy Tulowitzki (August 2007), Garrett Atkins (June 2005), Clint Barmes (April 2005), and Jason Jennings (August 2002).
Finally, Carrigg and Rumfield are just the second pair of Rockies teammates to win the award in the same season alongside Barmes and Atkins in 2005. Colorado is now the only National League franchise to have a pair of teammates win the award in the same season on multiple occasions.
