After missing the playoffs three seasons in a row, the Rangers will be looking to change some things this offseason. Could the team bring back an old friend for the coaching staff?
“I think they’ve got a really good infield instructor right now in Corey Ragsdale, but I think Wash would would love to finish out his career with the Rangers. I just don’t know what it would look like,” Grant said. “If [outfield instructor] Travis Jankowski’s duties change a little bit and Corey works more with the outfielders next year, maybe there’s a configuration there.”
Since leaving the Rangers near the end of the 2014 season, Washington has coached for the Athletics and Atlanta Braves (winning a World Series in 2021) and managed the Los Angeles Angels. He took a leave of absence as Angels manager last season after undergoing quadruple bypass surgery.
Washington has long been considered one of the top infield instructors in baseball and could be a fresh voice for his old team in 2027.
