It remains unclear why Outman is with the big league team, but his arrival could be an indication the Dodgers are set to make a roster move.
In mid-May, Outman was optioned by the Dodgers when Teoscar Hernandez was activated off the injured list. The 28-year-old was hitting .125 with two home runs, four runs batted in and an OPS of .597 across nine Major League games.
With Triple-A Oklahoma City this season, Outman is hitting .271 with 12 home runs, 42 RBIs and a .904 OPS across 181 at-bats.
Outman was reportedly a potential trade piece for the Dodgers in their discussions with the Chicago White Sox earlier this season. While the Dodgers tabled trade discussions with the White Sox for outfielder Luis Robert Jr., the reported return package included Outman and a top Dodgers prospect.
This spring, Outman and Andy Pages were competing for a chance to emerge as the Dodgers’ everyday center fielder. However, Pages eventually earned the spot and Outman was optioned to Triple-A after the Tokyo Series.
For what it’s worth, Tommy Edman is in the Dodgers’ lineup on Thursday after missing the last two games due to an ankle injury.
