It’s been another rough homestand for the Mariners in what’s becoming an uncomfortable pattern. What shaped up to be a slate of three favorable and winnable series have instead been two series losses, and the possibility of a sweep on the horizon today. The Mariners have let their lead in the AL West slip away, and are playing a particularly unwatchable brand of baseball right now, full of bullpen meltdowns and RISP crispy un-treats. Bryan Woo will try to get the ship righted.

Lineups:

Ben Williamson gets a day off. Jorge Polanco serves as the DH and is hitting…second. What are we doing here, exactly.

News:

Dan Wilson says Logan Gilbert reported feeling “good” after his last rehab start in Tacoma, where he worked into the fourth inning, and that that’s the most important thing the team will weigh in determining whether or not he makes another rehab start or returns to the team. Gilbert went 3+ innings and held his velocity at 95-96 for the majority of his start, while mixing in his off-speed pitches, but towards the end of his outing his velocity dipped to 93-94 on the sinker and four-seamer. Angie Mentink spoke to Logan pre-game and will have more information in one of her sideline reports today.

Captain’s Log:

Dan Wilson on Bryan Woo’s success this season:

“We weren’t sure how or what to expect this year in terms of health because of some of the past experience, but he’s just been steady. And he’s been steady in terms of his results on the mound, as well. He’s just really found a nice rhythm to how he approaches the game. He’s found a really nice mental mindset that he takes out on the mound with him. So he’s been in a really good spot, and I think that’s why we’re seeing a lot of consistency out of him.”

Today in Mariners History:

1997 – It’s the anniversary of Alex Rodriguez hitting for the cycle (only the second Mariners player to do so) and winning a fan a million dollars, which means I get to post one of my favorite video clips of all time:
