PHOENIX (AZFamily) — The Arizona Diamondbacks have confirmed they will not retain Steve Berthiaume as the team’s play-by-play announcer.
Berthiaume is the longest-tenured play-by-play man in Diamondbacks history, with 14 seasons as the team’s television voice on FOX Sports Arizona alongside analyst Bob Brenly.
Before joining the Diamondbacks, Berthiaume spent 12 years at ESPN, where he worked as a “SportsCenter” anchor and “Baseball Tonight” host. He also served as a play-by-play announcer for ESPN’s league-wide MLB package and called games for the College World Series Super Regional.
Prior to ESPN, Berthiaume spent three years as a sports anchor at CNN in Atlanta.
The Diamondbacks did not give a reason for not retaining Berthiaume.
