Hernandez has 17 career postseason home runs, moving past Babe Ruth’s 15. Ruth, famously known as the “Great Bambino,” remains one of the most recognizable players in baseball history, making Hernandez’s accomplishment particularly notable.

The Dodgers veteran added to his postseason total Tuesday night, hitting a two-run home run in the fourth inning of Game 3 against Atlanta Braves left-hander Chris Sale. The blast helped Los Angeles secure a 3-1 victory and take a 2-1 lead in the best-of-five National League Division Series.

Hernandez has earned the nickname “Mr. October” for his ability to produce during the playoffs, and his latest home run provided another example of his postseason impact.

According to OptaSTATS, Hernandez is the only player with at least 100 career home runs to have at least 10% of his total homers come during the postseason. He has hit 151 home runs across his career, with 17 of those coming in 105 playoff games.

That means Hernandez has produced a significant portion of his career power on baseball’s biggest stage, adding to his reputation as a postseason performer.

Ruth’s numbers provide an intriguing comparison. The legendary slugger hit 15 postseason home runs during his career, but he appeared in just 42 playoff games. Hernandez has more postseason homers despite playing in a significantly larger number of playoff contests.

Dodgers closing in on another NLCS

Hernandez’s latest milestone came at a crucial time for the Dodgers, who are now just one win away from eliminating Atlanta and advancing.

Los Angeles will have the opportunity to close out the series in Game 4 on Wednesday in Atlanta. A victory would send the Dodgers to their third consecutive National League Championship Series.

With Hernandez continuing to add to his remarkable postseason résumé, the Dodgers will look to finish the job and keep their championship pursuit alive.
