We’ll see if Arráez and the Padres escape danger once again.
Arráez left Thursday’s 3-2 loss to the San Francisco Giants with posterior knee soreness. Padres manager Mike Shildt told reporters that Arráez is day-to-day, though it is unclear if he’ll play against the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday night.
Arráez went 1-for-3 before his injury. Jake Cronenworth moved over from second base to first, and Tyler Wade subsequently entered the game to play second.
It is unknown if Arráez will need an IL stint. If so, Cronenworth and Gavin Sheets figure to split first base reps while Arráez recovers.

It’s been mostly business as usual for Arráez, who owns a .282 average and a .720 OPS through 55 games. Arráez remains one of the league’s most efficient hitters, walking only 11 times against five strikeouts through 239 plate appearances.

However, Arráez is only worth 0.0 bWAR, and he’s on pace for a career-worst batting average. Arráez is also on track to miss his first All-Star Game since 2021.
San Diego dropped to 35-26 with Thursday’s loss, putting them 1 1/2 games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West. The Padres hold the NL’s second Wild Card spot, trailing the Philadelphia Phillies by 1 1/2 games.
