As Milwaukee Brewers fans gathered for a watch party at American Family Field, one lifelong supporter was already thinking beyond the National League Championship Series.

Ruth Werning is 104 years old and will celebrate her 105th birthday next month. She said there would be no better present than seeing the Brewers win the World Series.

“Oh my, would it ever,” Werning said when asked whether a championship would be a big gift. “I’m able to get around. Put me on a bus, put me on an airplane. Oh, I think I’d have something to look forward to.”

Werning remembers the Brewers’ 1982 World Series appearance, when Milwaukee faced the St. Louis Cardinals. More than four decades later, she is hoping to see the team return to baseball’s biggest stage.

She may also be a familiar face to Brewers fans. Shortly before the 2024 postseason, Werning threw out the ceremonial first pitch at a game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Milwaukee won that game 6-4.

For NLCS Game 3, Werning predicted another Brewers victory—this time by a score of 6-2.

She also had a plan for celebrating with the people watching alongside her.

“There will be several people here probably watching games together,” Werning said. “Maybe I could say I would treat them all to a drink. We can get that here.”

When asked about her secret to longevity, Werning said she drinks a glass of wine a day and a gin and tonic on Sunday.
