Preserved chocolate bar is from the 1982 ALCS
A Milwaukee man has kept a chocolate bar from the Brewers’ 1982 World Series run frozen for 44 years, surviving moves, power outages and curious kids.
Warren Bohn, a Milwaukee native, has held onto the candy bar since 1982.
“You’ve owned this candy bar longer than you’ve owned this house,” he said. “A lot of times I didn’t even remember that it was here.”
Bohn, who describes himself as a collector, said, “I like collecting things.”
His Brewers memorabilia includes a ticket from Robin Yount’s 3,000th hit and the chocolate bar, which he called “very special.”
“Oh, I save everything,” he said.
The candy bar has endured a move to a new house in 1987, power outages, and years of family life.
Bohn said there was one rule for his kids: “I saw on the bag it said, ‘Do not eat?'” he recalled. “But sometimes some of our kids couldn’t read it,” he said, laughing.
As the Brewers aim for another shot at the World Series, Bohn said, “I would be really happy if they win the World Series. Oh yeah, that would be great.”
However, the candy bar won’t be part of any celebration.
“I don’t think it is edible anymore,” Bohn said. “I am not going to open it,” he added with a laugh.
Bohn said he isn’t entirely sure where the candy bar came from, but he believes it was purchased at the Milwaukee County Stadium, now known as Helfaer Field.
After 44 years in the freezer, the chocolate bar remains a sweet reminder of the Brewers’ history as fans hope for new memories to be made.
