LOS ANGELES, CA — A game-worn Shohei Ohtani jersey from the 2025 Tokyo Series sold for $2,055,700, setting a public-auction record for a baseball jersey worn in the 21st century.

Ohtani wore the gray Los Angeles Dodgers road jersey against the Chicago Cubs at the Tokyo Dome on March 18, 2025. The sale surpassed the previous modern record of $1.792 million paid for Aaron Judge’s jersey from his 2016 major league debut, according to KTLA.

The auction result provides another measure of Ohtani’s extraordinary international appeal. It also places an artifact from the Dodgers’ historic trip to Japan among the most valuable pieces of modern baseball memorabilia ever sold.

Why Shohei Ohtani’s Tokyo Series jersey is unique

The jersey was worn during Ohtani’s first official Major League Baseball game in Japan. He went 2-for-5 with two runs scored in the Dodgers’ 4-1 victory and recorded his first hit of the 2025 season with a 107.4 mph line drive.

According to The Realest, the auction house that handled the sale, the jersey carries the first Gold MLB Logoman worn in an official major league game. It also includes the Tokyo Series patch, the Dodgers’ Fernando Valenzuela memorial patch and the Guggenheim sponsorship patch.

Ohtani personally signed the jersey in kanji and added several inscriptions. They identify it as game-used on March 18, 2025, commemorate Opening Day at the Tokyo Series and reference his 2025 National League MVP award.

The jersey was authenticated through MLB’s Authentication Program and photo-matched to Ohtani during the game. Video documentation of Ohtani signing and inscribing it was also included with the sale.

Ohtani memorabilia keeps breaking records

The $2.05 million sale broke Ohtani’s own jersey record. His game-worn jersey from the 2026 World Baseball Classic sold for $1,500,010 in March.

The Realest previously sold the signed New Balance shoes Ohtani wore during the same Tokyo Series opener for $440,055. That established a public-auction record for baseball footwear.

Ohtani’s homecoming helped turn the 2025 Tokyo Series into a landmark event for the Dodgers and MLB. More than 25 million viewers watched the opener in Japan, making it the country’s most-watched MLB game at the time.

The record sale shows that the significance of that night continues to grow. For one collector, owning the jersey Ohtani wore during his first MLB game in Japan was worth more than $2 million.
