Both team stores, located at the Left-Field Gate, and Home Plate Gate, will remain closed Friday morning, but will reopen to ticketed fans when the ballpark gates open for Game 1 of the World Series on Friday.

What things were like in 1982

The last time the Brewers were in the World Series was 1982, and a lot has changed since then.

“Physical” by Olivia Newton-John was the No. 1 song of the year, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial was the highest grossing film and a movie ticket cost just a $1.50.

A lot has changed in baseball since the last Brewers World Series appearance.

For starters, the Brewers were in the American League, led by AL MVP Robin Yount. The Brewers went on to face their eventual NL Central rivals, the St. Louis Cardinals, in the World Series.

Back in 1982 though, there was no Central Division as both the American League and National League were split up by Eastern and Western Conferences.

Residing with the Brewers in the AL East were the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles, Toronto Blue Jays, Cleveland Indians, now known as the Cleveland Guardians, and Detroit Tigers.

The AL West consisted of the Chicago White Sox, Minnesota Twins, Kansas City Royals, Texas Rangers, Seattle Mariners, Oakland Athletics and the California Angels, now known as the Los Angeles Angels.

Back in 1982, the playoff format was a lot harder to qualify for as four teams, each division winner, made the postseason. In 2026, 14 teams made the postseason.

The Brewers got past the Angels 3-2 in a best-of-five series in the ALCS.

Milwaukee faced St. Louis, the winner of the NL East in the World Series. St. Louis won Game 7 to win the series 4-3 over the Brewers.

St. Louis won the NL East that year over the Philadelphia Phillies, Montreal Expos, now the Washington Nationals, Pittsburgh Pirates, Chicago Cubs and New York Mets.

The Cardinals swept the Atlanta Braves, the winner of the NL West, in the NLCS. Atlanta won the NL West over the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, San Diego Padres, Houston Astros and Cincinnati Reds.

Milwaukee’s opponent for the 2026 World Series wasn’t even a team back in 1982. The Tampa Bay Rays became a franchise in 1998.

Other teams that became franchises after the last Brewers’ World Series appearance include the Colorado Rockies (1993), Miami Marlins (1993) and Arizona Diamondbacks (1998).

The Brewers were owned at the time by Bud Selig, who later became commissioner of Major League Baseball.

Bug Selig’s family sold the Brewers to current owner Mark Attanasio back in September 2004 for an estimated $223 million.
