DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers declined closer Kenley Jansen’s $12 million club option, exercised right-hander Drew Anderson’s $10 million option, and re-signed pitcher Jacob Waguespack to a one-year deal on Monday, according to ESPN.

Detroit paid Jansen a $2 million buyout, making the veteran closer a free agent while retaining Anderson and Waguespack to bolster the pitching staff.

Jansen’s departure ends his tenure with Detroit after one season. The 39-year-old reliever recorded 22 saves and a 3.20 ERA over more than 45 innings in 2026, bringing his career total to 498 saves, leaving him two saves short of becoming the third pitcher in Major League Baseball history to reach 500 career saves.

Anderson returns to Detroit after pitching 108 innings with a 3.67 ERA in 2026. The right-hander posted a 2.84 ERA over his final nine starts after moving into the starting rotation, providing stability for the team’s pitching staff down the stretch.

Waguespack, a 32-year-old right-hander, entered free agency following the season before agreeing to return on a new one-year Major League contract. Financial terms of his agreement were not disclosed in the initial report.
