Hart baseball split two of the games they played in the BC Pizza Tournament in Hart May 3, losing the first game to Ludington, 5-3, and winning the second game to Mason County Central, 6-5, on a walk off single that drove in two runs.

In the first game against Ludington, Aiden Cull went four innings on the mound and Avery Guikema pitched three.

The Pirates got off to a quick 1-0 lead, then Ludington got five runs before the Pirates scored another two runs later in the game.

According to Pirates Head Coach David Riley, the Pirates got good offense from Aiden Coker, who went 2-3 from the plate, with a double, one run and a stolen base.

Also having a good day at the plate, Riley said, Ty Schlukebir, who also went two for-three, with a run batted in, and a stolen base; Brendan Hiddema, who went 1-3, with a double and a run, and Hunter Loudermilk, who went 2-3 with an RBI.

In their game against MCC, Halen Boos drove in the winning runs as the got the hit past first base, which enabled Hiddema and Logan Jorissen to score.

Boos had a strong offensive showing, as he went 2-5 from the plate, with four RBI’s and a stolen base.

Aiden Coker also went 2-2 at the plate, and got one run; Schlukebir, who went 1-3; Guikema, who went 2-3; HIddema finished his day by going 1-3, with one run; Jorrisen went 1-3 and scored two runs, and Kyle Griener went 1-3.

On the mound, Schlukebir pitched three and two-thirds innings, Guikema pitched three, and Coker pitched one-third of an inning.

After the first game against Ludington, Riley talked about the game and about the tournament.

“They had an inning where they were able to push some runs across that kind of hurt, but I’m proud of my guys,” Riley said.

Riley also said, “They gave up the lead there to them in that inning but we held them there and we definitely had our chances at the plate to make a comeback after they gained the lead; the plate appearances were not quite … we hadn’t threated as much as we wanted to come back there at the end.

About the tournament, Riley said, “It’s kind of a fun day, beautiful weather.”

“Saturday baseball feels a little bit different than your normal after-school double headers so it’s kind of a unique thing that way so it’s fun, fun day,” Riley said.
