The Cincinnati Reds and the Arizona Diamondbacks series opener at Great American Ball Park on Friday was suspended due to rain.
“The suspended game from tonight will resume (Saturday) at 2:10 p.m., and the regularly scheduled game will begin approximately 40 minutes after the suspended game ends (but not prior to 4:10 p.m. ET),” Reds officials said in a statement. “Fans holding tickets for (Friday’s) game may receive a discount on tickets for tomorrow’s game by presenting their tickets at the Great American Ball Park ticket windows.
“Gates for Tyler Stephenson City Connect Bobblehead distribution will open for Season Ticket Members at 12:10 p.m. and the general public at 12:40 p.m. “Tickets purchased for tomorrow’s game scheduled for 4:10 p.m. are valid for both the conclusion of the postponed game and the originally scheduled game.”
The teams played several innings in steady rain that appeared to increase in intensity as the night wore on. The Reds, who trailed 3-0, climbed back to tie the game in the sixth, and the game was then stopped and the tarp rolled onto the field.
The fireworks show scheduled for after the game was staged during the rain delay, which began around 9 p.m.
The delay with the fifth of the season for the Reds at Great American Ball Park, and those delays have totaled almost eight hours. The Reds also had a home game postponed and played the next day as part of a day-night doubleheader.
The Diamondbacks took a 3-0 lead on home runs by Ketel Marte and Geraldo Perdomo in the third inning. Marte clubbed a two-run shot and Perdomo followed up with a sole homer.
The Reds got on the board in the bottom of the third inning via T.J. Friedl’s two-run homer, and Christian Encarnacion Strand tied the game with a sole home run 418 feet to center field in the pouring rain.
The Reds threatened to take the lead in the sixth inning but couldn’t drive in Jose Trevino from third base.

The rain delays started around 9 p.m. following the conclusions of the sixth inning at Great American Ball Park, and stadium officials asked fans to leave their seats for the concourse. The game is tied, 3-3, and the Reds haven’t announced a timetable for possibly resuming the game.
At the beginning of the rain delay, the Reds announced in-stadium that the postgame fireworks show was being moved up and would begin shortly.
