After a season of extreme highs and extreme lows, the Louisville baseball team is now just one win away from a trip to Omaha for the College World Series.

Hosting a Super Regional for the first time since 2019, the Cards wasted no time in jumping all over visiting Miami en route to an 8-1 in game one of the three-game series.

The action started with back-to-back home runs from Garrett Pike and Jake Munroe in the home half of the second inning. After Miami got one back in the top of the third, the Cards busted things open with a 5-run frame fueled by a critical Hurricane error and another bomb from Munroe.

Munroe added a sacrifice fly an inning later to drive in his fifth run and cap the scoring for the day.

Though he struggled with control at times, Cardinal starter Patrick Forbes allowed just a single run and four hits over 5.2 innings while striking out nine. Forbes allowed four free passes, but twice worked out of a bases loaded jam to keep Miami from seizing momentum.

The much-maligned Louisville bullpen was once again rock solid. Brennyn Cuts allowed only a single hit over 1.1 innings of work, and then Justin West went the rest of the way, allowing just one hit as well.

All things considered, this may have been the cleanest overall game the Cards have played so far in this tournament.

Let’s go ahead and keep the drama to a minimum and wrap this bad boy up tomorrow.

First pitch for game two on Saturday is set for 11 a.m. ESPN will have the television coverage.

Make it out to the stadium to hopefully see some dog-piling with your own eyes.

Cards.
