Missed opportunities spoiled an otherwise competitive game for the Colorado Rockies (12-51) on Friday against the New York Mets (40-24). Now, the Rockies shuffled the rotation slightly for the rest of the weekend as they look to rebound on Saturday night. Germán Márquez will start tonight with Chase Dollander starting tomorrow.

Márquez (2-7, 6.98 ERA) takes the mound for Colorado and will try to keep the train rolling on his recent stretch of strong starts. In his last outing against the Miami Marlins on Monday, Márquez allowed three runs on nine hits over five innings. He definitely dealt with traffic but he settled in with six strikeouts and navigated enough to give the Rockies a chance to win that game eventually. Márquez has also found comfort at Coors Field where he owns a 4.44 ERA in four starts. His last outing at home against the Phillies resulted in seven innings of two-run ball.

Clay Holmes (6-3, 3.07 ERA) steps on the hill for the Mets. The former reliever has been quite solid in his first full season out of the rotation and the Rockies got a taste in their last game against him. In his last start, against the Rockies, no doubt, Holmes allowed three runs on just three hits over seven innings of work. The Rockies made plenty of contact as they struck out just three times against time, but he didn’t issue a single walk.

Also worth noting that Mickey Moniak was placed on the bereavement list with Sean Bouchard getting recalled from Albuquerque to replace him.

Buckle up for some late-night baseball at Coors Field on Brenton Doyle bobblehead night! Also, if you’re wondering why the game is so late instead of the normal 6:10 pm Saturday start, it’s because MLB didn’t want any games interfering with the Red Sox vs. Yankees national coverage.
