On Thursday, the Roswell Invaders (3-3) hosted the Alpine Cowboys (3-5) in the final game of a two-game series in Roswell. The first game had the Cowboys win 12-7 on Wednesday.

The Cowboys dominated the game on Thursday. The Invaders had a 2-0 lead to start after the second inning, but the Cowboys quickly took control and scored 10 straight to make the score 10-2 going into the final inning. Alpine scored one run in the third inning and three runs each in the fourth, fifth and seventh inning. The Cowboys would widen their lead even more, scoring almost double their runs in the previous eight innings, with 18. The Invaders would score two runs in the bottom of the ninth to make the final tally 28-4 in favor of the Cowboys. This game also saw the manager of the Invaders, Garrett Totty, get ejected in the fifth after arguing a call made by the umpires.

With the win, the Cowboys’ record moves to 4-5, while the Invaders’ record falls to 3-4. The team totals for the game showed that the Cowboys led the Invaders in hits with 19 compared to four. Both teams had the same number of errors: one, and the Invaders walked 15 Cowboy batters, while the Cowboys walked seven Invaders batters.

Four Invaders batters tied with one hit each, and Mikey Alonzo (27) had the Invaders only home run. Ira Clifton (6) was the starting pitcher, and he lasted 4.0 innings, struck out four batters, walked one, allowed nine hits and four runs. Five other pitchers finished the game, with Clifton (6) getting the loss.

Sean Becker (2) led the Cowboys in hits with four, while John Tuttle (9) had a home run. Jesse Garcia (18) was the starting pitcher for the Cowboys, and he lasted 6.0 innings, walked four batters, struck out six, allowed two hits and two runs. Garcia (18) also got the win. Brendan Konal (99) finished the game on the mound.

The next Invaders home game is tonight at 6:30 p.m. as they start a series against the Tucson Saguaros.
