The Big Pod Machine: Is it time for the Reds to sell?

Reds Beat Reporter Gordon Wittenmyer and Sports Reporter Pat Brennan discuss the current state of the Cincinnati Reds.

The Cincinnati Reds could be without starting pitcher Hunter Greene for some time, according to Fanduel Sports Network’s Jim Day.

Greene’s most recent start against the Milwaukee Brewers was cut short because he felt what might have been a reoccurrence of the groin injury that sidelined him in May, according to Reds manager Terry Francona.

Day said during Saturday’s broadcast that Greene’s MRI on the groin area came back clean, but there was “a catch to it.”

“He was experiencing some problems with his lower back and even into his hip area,” Day explained. “They’re trying to figure out whether or not that was related to the groin. … This is just me speaking. The Reds have not talked about a timetable. But this time they’re going to want to get him right. I think it’s going to be a much more extended stay on the injured list (for Greene). He is not with the team right now. This will be week by week and not day by day.”

Greene, a 2024 National League All-Star, has posted a 2.72 ERA in 11 starts this season. He posted a 2.75 ERA in a career-high 26 starts last season.
